MARCUS MICHELSEN
Violin
Marcus is currently on contract in the 1st violin section of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. He participated in the Fellowship program with the SSO in 2023, and then continued playing with the orchestra in 2024 on contract with the 2nd violin section.
His orchestral experience began in 2011 with the Sydney Youth Orchestra. Marcus was then the Flagship Orchestra’s youngest concertmaster from 2018 to 2020. He has also participated in the Australian Youth Orchestra’s programs from 2017 to 2022 and played with the Australian World Orchestra as their academy player for 2021.
Marcus found his love for chamber music while participating in the Aspen Music Festival and School, which he first attended when he was ten years old. There, he was fortunate enough to be tutored by renowned chamber music ensembles, including Takács Quartet and American String Quartet. Marcus has since played with Omega Ensemble, Tarsus Chamber Collective and Wollemi Chamber Society.
Marcus has studied with Nicole Masters (SSO), Prof. Paul Kantor (Julliard) and has had lessons with Miriam Fried (Professor, New England Conservatory), Andrew Haveron (Concertmaster, SSO) and Harry Bennetts (Associate Concertmaster, SSO). Marcus currently has lessons with Kasia Hans.
