DANA LEE
Viola
Dana is a freelance violist based in Sydney, where she is currently completing her Master of Music Studies at the Sydney Conservatorium under Professor Goetz Richter.
Raised in Sydney, Dana attended the Conservatorium High School, then graduated with a Bachelor of Performance from the Sydney Conservatorium under Stuart Johnson and Roger Benedict. During her studies, she was awarded numerous scholarships which supported travel to attend classes in Switzerland, Germany, Portugal, Austria and Denmark to receive string quartet coaching. Her group Ash Quartet, born out of these travels in 2018, was a prizewinner at Verão Clássico Festival in Lisbon and is still actively performing in Sydney. In her last undergraduate year, she completed the 2020/2021 Fellowship at Sydney Symphony Orchestra as well as the Australian Chamber Orchestra Emerging Artists program. Shortly after, she was the first viola player to commence Opera Australia Orchestra’s Fellowship in 2022.
Dana is currently engaged as a casual musician with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Opera Australia Orchestra, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and Queensland Symphony Orchestra, where she was a guest musician in the 2023 Brisbane Ring Cycle. As a chamber musician, she was a featured artist at Four Winds Festival, Canberra International Music Festival, Utzon Room Series and Orange Chamber Music Festival, touring Australia with ensembles including the Alma Moodie String Quartet, ACO Collective and Momentum Ensemble.
